Brilliant Nyathi
Founder of Izakoffee
My name is Lindumuzi Brilliant Nyathi, born and studied in Johannesburg, South Africa. After I Matriculated I had a dream on studying Law in University of Limpopo however that dream had to be replaced due to financial problems. I got my first job as a merchandiser in a health store “Jackson’s Real Food Market”. It was there I was exposed to coffee working hand in hand with Origins Coffee Roasters. By looking at what the guys did behind an Espresso machine, I then approached the owner of Origin Coffee Roasters “Joel Singer” and asked to be slotted in behind the bar. With the unfortunate news he could not employe me as for I was employed by another company which he was partnered with. A couple of months went by before I left Jacksons due to the fact that Coffee was my passion and merchandising was boring me to a point that I was slacking at my role.I was then taken in by Craft Coffee as a casual Barista and was trained from the bottom by Lovejoy Chirambasukwa himself.
Being a Barista
Throughout my career as a Barista I have learnt on how to respect my craft and my job title.
The secret on making a perfect cup of coffee lies under the terms of flavor, the understanding of the equipment and most of all without doubt the love and passion for coffee. My golden rule is “if you can’t drink it, don’t serve it “.
Achievements
One of the best achievements in the industry was when I got an invitation to the Nationals in JHB which was hosted by HOSTEX2020 in the Sandton conventions center. I got to meet the likes of KwaZulu-Natal’s first female Champ Fikile (fiks) Khuzwayo the likes of our current South African Cupping Champ Wency Maswai. I got a lot of coaching from those two Champs and am humbled to be coached by them.
I work with coffee on a daily basis. I taste or drink my coffee in a different. Hario V60 Pour Over is one of the best alternative slow brew I enjoy brewing the most. More hidden flavors are brought out to consume. Preferably a single African origin ‘’Uganda ‘’ would do for a hario for a client that is looking for a dark chocolaty flavor profile and a hint of berries on the cup.
Through my working experience, I have been able to accumulate the type of skills that are essential to the retail environment. I am a dynamic, hardworking, well focused individual whose main priority is to be an achiever in all aspects.
I want to provide my customers the world's best freshly roasted coffees and coffee equipment with excellent service at a price that is fair to the producers and my customers. My commitment to best practices towards customer service, my employees, the environment and my community defines the Izakoffee.
